UserDefferredTasks
From CLAWSWiki
Differed tasks allow you to use AMS more quickly and efficiently, and allow you to automate tasks for execution in the future.
You may choose to have AMS perform modifications that you make in the background, allowing you to continue on to other tasks and check back on the results several minutes later.
Additionally you may choose to have changes you make effected in the more distant future; for example you might increase a user's quota today, and task AMS with returning that user's quota to normal a week from now.
Note: Deferred tasks will never execute early, but they may be processed slightly later than expected due to variable system loads. They are executed on the AMS server, according to it's clock, not the clock on the client computer. AMS deferred tasks will execute even if you are logged off of AMS and your computer is powered off.
Viewing a user or group's deferred tasks
On the View/Modify page for both users and groups there is a box labeled Perform Modification below the edit box. If there are any deferred operations pending on the user or group being edited they will appear expanded at the top of the Perform Modification box.
Any completed tasks for this user will appear here as well, under the heading Completed Tasks. This section is contracted by default, click the expand button on this header to view it.
When you mouse over the command and result fields a popup will appear showing extended information.
Deferring your operations
After entering information on the Create or Edit pages for both users and groups you may choose to defer the creation or modification using the options under the header When.
- Immediately
- AMS will wait for all changes to complete and present you with the results immediately upon completion.
- As soon as possible
- You may continue to work while changes are processed. To view the results refer to Checking your deferred tasks below.
- On Date
- The changes will be applied at a future time of your choice. Results will not be available until that time.
Checking your deferred tasks
To view your deferred tasks and the results of any completed tasks click on the Deferred Tasks item in the menu at the top of the page.
By default this will display tasks from you current AMS session only.
If you have permission to view any operator's deferred tasks a search option will be available.
